About the Director

Natassia Day

Natassia Day has been teaching in Union County since 2009.  This is her 6th year teaching at Sun Valley Middle School. Under her direction, the SVMS 8th Grade Band has consistently earned a Superior Rating at SCDBA Music Performance Adjudication. 

Before coming to SVMS, she served as Director of Elementary Bands (Monroe Cluster) in Union County, North Carolina.  Under her direction, the Monroe Cluster 5th grade band program consisted of nearly 160 students at five different elementary schools.  Mrs. Day also assisted the Monroe Middle School bands and music classes at Wolfe School.

Mrs. Day graduated Cum Laude from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education.  While there, she studied flute and clarinet with Dr. Phil Thompson and participated in various performing ensembles. She performed in the Winthrop University Wind Symphony, Carolinas Wind Orchestra, Chamber Winds, Woodwind Quintet, Clarinet Choir, and various school musicals.

Mrs. Day is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, the National Flute Association, the National Association for Music Education, the South Central District Bandmasters Association, and the Union County Bandmasters Association.

Mrs. Day is committed to continuing the musical excellence of the SVMS band program.
