Instrument Rental

The first requirement for a successful student musician is a quality instrument that is in good working order. Even the most dedicated band student can have limited success if he or she is using a poor quality instrument. It is your responsibility to provide a QUALITY instrument in GOOD WORKING ORDER for your child, complete with appropriate ACCESSORIES and CLEANING SUPPLIES.

I strongly recommend renting rather than purchasing an instrument for your beginning band student. Instrument rental programs offer your child flexibility in the beginning stages of their music education as they explore which instrument is the best fit for them. Once you know that your child is truly dedicated to their instrument and that it is a good fit, feel free to purchase one.

There are a number of music stores in the area that have instrument rental programs. Most Sun Valley band students rent from Music & Arts (704.341.0000), located in the Arboretum Shopping Center at the corner of Hwy 51 and Providence Road in south Charlotte. The sales representatives at Music & Arts are informed about which instrument brands Mrs. Day prefers her students to use, as well as the band method books and instrument accessories she recommends for Sun Valley musicians.  You will need a driver's license, credit or debit card, and roughly $35 to complete a rental agreement at Music & Arts.  It is fairly easy to complete a rental agreement, but it will take about 15-20 minutes, so plan accordingly.  Music & Arts will get very busy once August rolls around, so plan to rent your instrument BEFORE the first week of school to avoid the crowds.

If you prefer to obtain an instrument for your child somewhere other than Music & Arts, please consider one of the brands listed below:

FLUTE - Gemeinhardt, Yamaha, Armstrong
CLARINET - Yamaha, Buffet, Selmer
TRUMPET - Bach, Yamaha, Jupiter Capital Edition, King
TROMBONE - Bach, Yamaha, Jupiter Capital Edition, King
